Betrayal
I found you laying in the winter sun, your mother near, but not a care that you, my friend, were shivering.
You sister did she love the more, and on her, watch was keeping.
So, I took you in my arms and brought you home there with me.
I wiped away your after birth, and gave you your first feeding.
Day by day I watched you grow, and oh how well you loved me.
You always came when I drew near, not in the slightest fearing.
You licked my hand, and rubbed my leg, when dark clouds overtook me.
I scratched your head, and held you close, and told you all my secrets.
You did not judge, nor did you care, so long as you were near me.
But life is cruel, and so am I, for this was your repayment... that I should call you to myself, and load you on my trailer.
I hauled you away, this very day, and sold you to a stranger...My goat, my charge, my dearest friend... and so I am a monster.
I do not know what fate awaits, my kind and gentle Billy, but oh I hope you find better grass, than that which I have fed thee.
